Capella 7.1.0 is more than a new release. It marks the first concrete milestone since Obeo strengthened its commitment to Capella and became actively involved in shaping and developing its future.
Today we are proud to unveil the first results of this new momentum: Capella 7.1.0, bringing stronger foundations and new capabilities to the platform, together with the Capella-Simulink® Connector Add-On, now available as Open Source.

A stronger, more secure and maintainable Capella
Building the future of Capella starts with strengthening its foundations. With Capella 7.1.0, we have focused on making the platform more robust, secure and easier to maintain over the long term.
A major step in that direction is the migration from Java 17 to Java 21, bringing Capella onto a more recent and sustainable Java platform.
Security has also been a key focus, with nine CVEs addressed through dependency updates and removals, including:
- Removal of Mylyn features
- Migration to reload4j 1.2.26
- Migration to Guava 33
- Migration to SLF4J API and Logback 1.5.32
- Migration to EGit/JGit 6.6.1
These improvements may not be the most visible part of Capella 7.1.0, but they are essential: they give us a stronger foundation on which to build the next generations of Capella.
Getting Capella ready to speak your language
Capella is used by teams around the world, and Capella 7.1.0 takes an important step toward making the tool more accessible to international users.
The platform now provides the foundations needed to translate Capella’s user interface into different languages.
Capella does not ship with translations out of the box yet: translations need to be provided separately. But the capability is already being put to use.
Siemens, for example, has leveraged it to provide a Japanese version of System Modeling Workbench (SMW) in its latest release.
This is an important foundation for making Capella more accessible to users and organizations worldwide.

Capella 7.1.0 integrates the Eclipse Layout Kernel (ELK) add-on, giving you access to a variety of automatic layout algorithms.
To enable this feature, you can read this message on the forum.
Once it’s done then you can select the auto-layout algorithm of your choice:

The result? A major improvement that saves you time!
Automating project migration and improving reliability
Capella 7.1.0 also makes it easier to integrate project migration into automated workflows.
Project migration can now be processed through the API, opening the door to more automated migration processes and better integration with existing tooling.
The release also addresses a number of issues to improve Capella’s overall stability and reliability, including:
- A stack overflow that could occur when creating new REC or RPL elements in models containing a
GroupingElementPkg - Color disposal issues on Linux that could cause various problems on the platform
These are just a few of the fixes included in Capella 7.1.0.

And then… Simulink® enters the picture
Capella 7.1.0 is not the only news we have to share.
We are also making the Capella-Simulink® Connector add-on Open Source.
This connector bridges the gap between system architecture and simulation, making it possible to integrate Capella state machines and functional chains with Simulink® for simulation.
By making the connector Open Source, we want to make this integration more accessible to the Capella community, giving users the freedom to adopt it, explore how it works, contribute to it and help shape its future.
It is another step toward a richer and more open ecosystem around Capella.
What’s next for Capella
Capella 7.1.0 is the first milestone in this new chapter and there is already more on the way.
